McGee, Iglesias are Relievers of the Month
Jake McGee of the San Francisco Giants has been voted the National League Reliever of the Month for July, and Raisel Iglesias of the Los Angeles Angels has been voted the American League Reliever of the Month for July. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.
McGee earned his first career monthly award and is the first Giants winner since relief pitchers started receiving monthly honors in 2005. Iglesias similarly claimed his first career AL Reliever of the Month Award and is the first Angels recipient since Mike Mayers in September 2020.
Jake McGee, San Francisco Giants
• Converted all seven of his save opportunities while not surrendering a run across 11.0 innings pitched. Notched nine strikeouts while allowing a single walk over 11 appearances.
• Tallied at least one punchout in eight consecutive outings from July 3rd-25th.
• Did not permit an earned run in June nor July while registering a 17:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 21 appearances and 20.2 innings.
• Including yesterday’s contest against the Astros, has not allowed more than one hit in 27 consecutive appearances, holding the opposition to a .100 batting average.
• Enters play today with a career-high 23 saves on the season.
Raisel Iglesias, Los Angeles Angels
• Appeared in 13 games for the Angels, posting seven saves and a 3-1 record across 14.0 innings of work. Notched 19 strikeouts while permitting just one walk and nine hits.
• Notched his 22nd save of the campaign on Saturday. Has now logged at least 20 saves in four Major League seasons (also: 2017-19).
• Tallied multiple strikeouts in seven-of-13 outings during his award-winning month.
• Enters play today as one of four Major League pitchers with a 9.00-or-better strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.13) with a minimum of 40.0 innings. Is joined by All-Stars Jacob deGrom (13.27) and
Liam Hendriks (15.00), as well as Richard Bleier (10.33).
• Leads the Majors with 35 saves of at least four outs since the start of the 2017 season.

Others receiving votes for AL Reliever of the Month included Sergio Romo (12 G, 0.00 ERA, 14 SO, 2 H) of the Oakland Athletics; All-Star Andrew Kittredge (2-0, 0.73 ERA, 12.1 IP, 14 SO) of the Tampa Bay Rays; Kendall Graveman (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 SV, 16 SO) of the Seattle Mariners/Houston Astros; rookie Garrett Whitlock (1-0, 0.75 ERA, 13 SO, 0 BB) of the Boston Red Sox; and Adam Cimber (11 G, 0.79 ERA, 9 SO, 1 BB) of the Toronto Blue Jays.
