BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox appointed left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino as the club’s 27^th man for today’s doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. Per Major League Baseball rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.

Bernardino, 31, has posted a 3.38 ERA (5 ER/13.1 IP) in 12 relief appearances for Boston this season. Eight of those 12 outings have been scoreless, including his most recent Major League outing on May 26 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The left-hander has also pitched in three games for Triple-A Worcester, allowing two runs (one earned) in 5.0 innings.
