Red Sox Add Six Non-Roster Invitees to 2025 Spring Training Roster

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox have added six non-roster invitees to the team’s 2025 Spring Training roster: catcher Seby Zavala; infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton; and right-handed pitchers Isaiah Campbell, Michael Fulmer, Bryan Mata, and Wyatt Mills.

Seby Zavala, C – Zavala, 31, appeared in 18 games for the Seattle Mariners in 2024 while also playing 33 games for Triple-A Tacoma. The right-handed hitter has played in 194 Major League games with the Chicago White Sox (2019, 2021-23), Arizona Diamondbacks (2023), and Mariners (2024), making 153 starts as the catcher. Originally selected by the White Sox in the 12th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has thrown out 125 of 445 runners attempting to steal (27.6%) in 391 career minor league games as the catcher.

Nate Eaton, INF/OF – Eaton, 27, batted .252 (108-for-428) with 30 doubles, 16 home runs, 60 RBI, and 27 stolen bases in 116 games with Triple-A Omaha during 2024. Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 21st round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the right-handed hitter has played in 72 Major League games for the Royals (2022-23), making 16 starts in right field, 13 at third base, 10 in left field, and nine in center field. He is 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts in the Majors, ranking in at least the 96th percentile in sprint speed in both 2022 and 2023.

Isaiah Campbell, RHP – Campbell, 27, owns a 5.35 ERA (21 ER/35.1 IP) with 39 strikeouts in 35 Major League games for the Seattle Mariners (2023) and Red Sox (2024). The right-hander split 2024 between Boston (eight games) and Triple-A Worcester (14 games), becoming the first player in Red Sox history born in Portugal. Originally selected by the Mariners in the second round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, he also owns a 2.04 ERA (24 ER/105.2 IP) with 125 strikeouts over 75 career minor league games (four starts).

Michael Fulmer, RHP Fulmer, 31, missed the entire 2024 season recovering from a right elbow UCL revision surgery performed on October 18, 2023. The 2016 American League Rookie of the Year and 2017 All-Star has posted a 3.94 ERA (295 ER/674.0 IP) with 19 saves and 575 strikeouts in 262 career games (90 starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2016-22), Minnesota Twins (2022), and Chicago Cubs (2023). An Oklahoma native, Fulmer was originally selected by the New York Mets in the first round (44th overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Bryan Mata, RHP – Mata, 25, spent the entire 2024 season on the Injured List, making 11 rehab appearances across three stints. The Venezuela native was signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2016 and entered 2023 ranked by both Baseball America and MLB.com as the Red Sox’ top pitching prospect before missing a majority of the season due to injury. He owns a 3.46 ERA (172 ER/447.2 IP) with 460 strikeouts in 108 career minor league games (101 starts), allowing only 0.40 home runs per 9.0 innings.

Wyatt Mills, RHP – Mills, 29, underwent a right elbow UCL reconstruction on July 5, 2023, and did not pitch during 2023 or 2024. The right-hander has recorded a 6.21 ERA (29 ER/42.0 IP) in 38 Major League relief appearances for the Seattle Mariners (2021-22) and Kansas City Royals (2022). In 155 career minor league games (one start), he has posted a 3.25 ERA (68 ER/188.1 IP) with 245 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Washington native was acquired by Boston in a three-team trade on December 16, 2022.
