Red Sox Select Eight Players on Day Two of 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today continued their participation in Major League Baseball's 2022 First-Year Player Draft with eight additional selections in rounds 3-10.
Over the first two days of the draft, Boston has selected three infielders, two left-handed pitchers, two right-handed pitchers, and one outfielder.
With their first pick today, 99th overall, the Red Sox selected left-handed pitcher Dalton Rogers out of the University of Southern Mississippi. Rogers made a team-leading 23 appearances, all in relief, for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore in 2022, posting a 1.95 ERA (8 ER/37.0 IP) with a 1.05 WHIP and 13.86 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (57 strikeouts). Prior to his time at Southern Mississippi, the Flowood, MS native pitched one season at both Southeastern Louisiana University (2020) and Jones College (2021).
The Red Sox selected infielder Chase Meidroth with their second pick today, 129th overall, out of the University of San Diego. The right-handed hitter batted .319 (83-for-260) with 30 extra-base hits and 59 runs scored in 64 games for the Toreros from 2020-22. Prior to his collegiate career, Meidroth was a member of the Garciaparra Baseball Group from 2016-18. The high school level and youth baseball club was created by Michael and Ramon Garciaparra in 2012, the latter of which is the father of former Red Sox All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra.
