Prior to tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement list. To fill Benintendi's spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled first baseman/outfielder Sam Travis from Triple-A Pawtucket. 
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Benintendi, 24, has hit .297 (104-for-350) with 25 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs, 57 RBI, 68 runs scored, and an .897 OPS in 91 games for Boston this season. He is also 17-for-18 in stolen base attempts, as he leads the Red Sox in steals, walks (49), and triples. The Cincinnati native joins Mike Trout and Jose Ramirez as the only major leaguers this season with at least 100 hits, 50 RBI, and 15 steals. Selected by Boston in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2015 June Draft, Benintendi finished second in 2017 American League Rookie of the Year voting. In 276 career major league games, he has batted .282 (290-for-1,028) with an .823 OPS.
Travis, 24, has appeared in four games (three starts) in one stint with Boston this season, going 2-for-12 with a walk and three RBI. He has also hit .224 (46-for-205) with six home runs in 57 games for Pawtucket, including .346 (9-for-26) with two homers in his last eight games. Travis has started 31 games at first base, 17 in left field, and nine at designated hitter with the PawSox. Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in the Red Sox organization entering the 2018 season, the right-handed hitter was selected by Boston in the second round of the 2014 June Draft and made his major league debut in 2017, batting .263 (20-for-76) with six doubles in 33 games.
