The Texas Rangers return to Arlington on Wednesday night to begin an eight-day, eight-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers, and Oakland Athletics at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Six of the eight contests have 7:05 p.m. CT starts, with the two day games taking place on Thursday, August 11 vs. Colorado (1:05 p.m. CT) and Sunday, August 14 vs. Detroit (2:05 p.m. CT).
The Tigers (15-8) and Rockies (15-9) have produced two of the top three records in Major League Baseball since the All-Star break, and Detroit is currently in a virtual tie for second place in the American League Wild Card standings. Those two clubs will be making their only visits to Arlington this season.
The homestand will feature the Nitto Tire Adrian Beltre Bobblehead Giveaway for the Rangers' game on Sunday, August 14 against Detroit. The helmet on the bobblehead can be removed, similar to the scene frequently played out in the Rangers dugout following a Beltre home run. The first 15,000 fans through the gates on Sunday will receive the Beltre bobblehead, and all gates will open at 12 Noon that day.
There are two other promotional giveaways this homestand, including a Papa John's TBT Collector Pin for the first 10,000 fans at the Thursday, August 11 game versus Colorado. This edition of the giveaway honors Michael Young for becoming the Rangers all-time franchise hit leader on June 16, 2010. At Saturday's game against Detroit, the first 15,000 fans aged 14-and-older will receive a Snapple/Brookshire's Fan Vote T-Shirt depicting Prince Fielder.
The musical soundtrack for Postgame Fireworks by Big Green Egg on Friday, August 12 was selected through a fan vote on social media over the past week. Before the game on Friday against Detroit, the team will also honor this year's Richard Greene Scholars, a program funded by the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation to support the Arlington Independent School District.
In support of the ongoing commitment from Major League Baseball, its Clubs and the players to increase opportunities for youth participation in baseball and softball, the Texas Rangers will once again team with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) to host an equipment collection drive prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against Detroit on Saturday, August 13. Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is serving as the Equipment Drive's honorary chairman for the fifth year. Fans may drop off new and gently used baseball and softball equipment at any entrance of Globe Life Park in Arlington from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
All equipment received will be donated to the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex. In a pre-game presentation on Saturday, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund will donate a $5,000.00 grant to Mercy Street for the purchase of youth baseball and softball equipment for Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy. In addition, Academy Sports + Outdoors will be giving a $2,500.00 gift card to the Rangers Baseball Foundation to purchase equipment for the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy. Fans can also drop off equipment throughout this week at Globe Life Park's Majestic Grand Slam Gift Shop or the Texas Rangers Team Shop at 316 Main Street in Fort Worth.
The equipment drive is sponsored in part by Academy Sports + Outdoors, Fox Sports Southwest and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. For more information, call 817-273-5207 or visit www.texasrangers.com/equipment.
Prior to next Monday night's 7:05 p.m. game against Oakland, the club will celebrate National Jersey Day. All fans who wear a Rangers jersey have the option to participate in a pregame on-field parade around the warning track beginning at 6:00 p.m., and will also receive a voucher for a buy-one get-one free ticket offer.
