Yankees Acquire LHP Clayton Andrews

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired LHP Clayton Andrews from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for RHP Joshua Quezada.

Andrews, 27, appeared in four games over four stints (7/1-5, 8/5, 9/1-5, 9/29-30) for the Brewers in his first Major League season in 2023 (3.1IP, 10H, 11R/10ER, 2BB, 4K, 3HR). He spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Nashville, going 6-0 with five saves and a 2.53 ERA (57.0IP, 39H, 18R/16ER, 31BB, 74K, 4HR) in 48 appearances (one start). Among Brewers farmhands in 2023, he ranked third in appearances. Over five seasons in the Brewers organization (2018-19, ‘21-23), he has gone 18-6 with 16 saves and a 3.14 ERA (169.0IP, 118H, 65R/59ER, 76BB, 235K, 13HR) over 122 career appearances (one start).

The Petaluma, Calif., native was selected by Milwaukee in the 17th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of California State University, Long Beach. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 40th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign.

Quezada, 19, made his professional debut in 2023 with the DSL Yankees, going 6-0 with a 3.69 ERA (46.1IP, 36H, 22R/19ER, 18BB, 48K, 2HR) in 11 games (four starts). Among qualified Yankees farmhands last season, he ranked in opponents’ BA (.214, third), WHIP (1.17, fifth) and ERA (ninth). The La Paz Centro, Nicaragua, native was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on January 16, 2023.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have placed RHP Scott Effross on the 60-day injured list.
