Yankee Stadium Vaccination Site administers 100,000th shot today

November 18th, 2021

Earlier today, the Yankee Stadium Vaccination Site provided its 100,000th shot since opening its doors to the community.

The recipient of the shot, which was a booster given on the Yankee Stadium field, was Ana Figueroa, a home health aide who is originally from the Dominican Republic and has been a resident of the Bronx for 28 years. Ms. Figueroa also received her initial shot at Yankee Stadium this March. To celebrate the event, she was greeted by Yankees Senior Vice President & General Manager Brian Cashman and Senior Vice President of Corporate/Community Relations Brian Smith. She was presented with a Yankees jacket, Yankees caps for her family and four tickets to the team’s April 7, 2022, Opening Day Game against the Red Sox.

The shot was administered by Dr. Juan Tapia of SOMOS Community Care. In an unexpected coincidence, Dr. Tapia had been the physician for Ms. Figueroa’s fraternal twin sons (now 23) when they were ages 5-12.

The Yankee Stadium Vaccination Site began operation on February 5, 2021, and was established through a partnership between New York State, New York City, the New York Yankees, SOMOS Community Care and the New York National Guard. The 100,000 shots to date include both initial shots and boosters.

About the Yankee Stadium Vaccination Site

All individuals receiving shots at Yankee Stadium will receive a voucher for two (2) complimentary tickets in designated seating areas to select 2022 regular season home games scheduled to be played at Yankee Stadium.

The entrance to the site is by Gate 6 of Yankee Stadium, on the northwest corner of E. 161st Street and River Avenue.

At the present time, initial doses of COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson only – no appointment necessary) and booster shots (Johnson & Johnson – no appointment necessary; Pfizer – by appointment only) are available. Beginning on Monday, November 22, shots will also be available for children ages 5-11 (Pfizer – by appointment only).

Appointments for both booster shots and vaccinations for children may be made online at https://somosvaccination.mdland.com/p/covid/#.

For those interested in receiving booster shots, please note:

  • You are required to possess and present the physical CDC card to SOMOS administration upon arrival.
  • Although the vaccination site can serve all individuals regardless of state of residence, it is advised that people receive boosters in the state in which they received their initial dose(s) for vaccine “passport” and tracking purposes.
