White Sox claim Ron Marinaccio off waivers from the Yankees

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have claimed right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio (“mare-uh-NOTCH-ee-oh”) off waivers from the New York Yankees and optioned him to Class AA Birmingham.

Marinaccio, 29, has spent most of the season with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going 1-3 with a 2.04 ERA (9 ER/39.2 IP), 0.98 WHIP, .179 (25-140) opponents average and 41 strikeouts over 35 relief appearances. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Marinaccio also has made 16 relief appearances with the Yankees, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (10 ER/23.1 IP) and 25 strikeouts.

Marinaccio has worked at least 1.0 IP in all 16 outings with the Yankees, and recorded a strikeout in 15 (seven games with two-plus). He is 6-5 with a 3.22 ERA (41 ER/114.2 IP), .188 (75-399) opponents average, two saves, 14 holds and 137 strikeouts (10.75 per 9.0 IP) in 101 career appearances with New York-AL. Marinaccio originally was selected by the Yankees in the 19th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Delaware.

Following the waiver claim, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
