White Sox announce 2023 Draft signings

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with 17 of their 20 selections from the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, including first-round pick (15th overall) shortstop Jacob Gonzalez ($3.9-million signing bonus), and five undrafted free agents.

Gonzalez, 21, hit 327/.435/.564 (66-202) with 18 doubles, 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 46 runs scored over 54 games with the University of Mississippi this season. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Gonzalez was named First Team ABCA All-South Region, Second Team All-SEC and was a Brooks Wallace Award Semifinalist in 2023.

Gonzalez, a native of Glendora, Calif., was recommended by White Sox scout Warren Hughes.

 The White Sox agreed to terms with the following undrafted free agents, right-handed pitchers Luke Bell (Xavier University), Jake Bockenstedt (Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville), Carson Jacobs (North Dakota State University) and Connery Peters (University of Texas-Arlington) and catcher Dominic Tamez (University of Alabama).

 All 22 signees have completed and passed their scheduled physicals with the White Sox. Chicago is expected to make additional signings in the coming days.
