UMPIRES FOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ANNOUNCED
Hoye and Iassogna to Guide Crews for ALCS and NLCS Presented by loanDepot; ALCS Scheduled to Begin on Sunday and NLCS to Start on Monday
Major League Baseball today announced the Major League Umpires who have been assigned to the 2023 League Championship Series presented by loanDepot. The ALCS between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers is scheduled to begin on Sunday in Houston, while the NLCS, featuring the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks, is slated to get underway on Monday in Philadelphia.
The ALCS crew will be led by 16-year Major League Umpire and regular season crew chief James Hoye, whose crew includes regular season crew chiefs Dan Bellino and Marvin Hudson as well as Jordan Baker, Doug Eddings, Mark Ripperger and Stu Scheurwater. Twenty-two-year Major League Umpire Dan Iassogna will serve as the crew chief for the NLCS. Iassogna’s crew is comprised by regular season crew chief Lance Barksdale, Andy Fletcher, Tripp Gibson, Adam Hamari, Mike Muchlinski and Carlos Torres. All of the Major League Umpires in the 2023 LCS also worked during this Postseason’s Wild Card Series round.
Placing seven umpires on each crew allows for distinct home plate assignments in a potential seven-game series. One of the seven umpires will be off the field in each game. Hudson (ALCS) and Barksdale (NLCS) will serve as Crew Chief in Game Two of each respective LCS, when Hoye and Iassogna will be off the field. The Major League Umpires who will be the Replay Officials during the LCS are Mike Estabrook, Jeremie Rehak and Chris Segal.
ESPN Radio will also provide live national coverage of all 2023 MLB Postseason games. All games telecast on TBS, FOX and FS1 will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider. MLB Network will provide extensive studio coverage throughout the entire Postseason in addition to exclusively airing the entire NLCS in Spanish-language. FOX Deportes will provide exclusive Spanish-language coverage of all ALCS games. Univision Radio will carry Spanish-language coverage of all Postseason games.
