Twins to celebrate 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's MLB debut during tonight's game vs. Dodgers

Ceremonies before and activations during the game to salute Jackie’s legacy and enduring impact by celebrating our youth

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – With Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs set to honor the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic MLB debut this Friday, the Minnesota Twins will spotlight Jackie’s enduring impact on the game and society before and during tonight’s scheduled 6:40 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Target Field.

Below is a list of the Twins’ scheduled pregame and in-game activations for tonight’s game, as the club salutes Jackie Robinson by celebrating our youth – the future generations that continue bravely breaking barriers, pushing for social equity and inspiring us all.   • Ceremonial First Pitch: Ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by local grade schoolers Nah’Lyiah Davis, Abigail Mutua and Aniyah Stewart – winners of the Twins’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day Writing Competition, in which the team and the St. Paul-based Planting People, Growing Justice Leadership Institute (PPGJLI) asked local youth to detail “What it truly means to be a drum major for justice.”
  • National Anthem: Tonight’s national anthem will be performed by Richfield, Minnesota resident and Minnehaha Academy junior Mayah Ruiters.
  • The Next Generation: Members of the North Community High School baseball team and Thomas Edison High School softball team will be part of the on-field, pregame ceremony. In-game inning breaks will highlight additional local youth athletes, including members of the Twins RBI program, along with Dr. Anika Tyner and PPGJLI, which seeks to plant seeds of social change through education, training and community outreach.
  • Countdown to Cooperstown: Twins RBI Coordinator and local historian Frank White will join athletes from the Twins RBI program to change the number on the “Countdown to Cooperstown” counter prior to the start of the sixth inning.
  • Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Members of the Twins RBI program will lead the crowd in “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.
  • “Thank You 42” T-shirts: All youth, guests and Twins employees on the field during pregame ceremonies and in stands during the game will be wearing special “Thank You 42” T-shirts.
