Twins select contract of Tyler Thornburg
Chi Chi González designated for release or assignment
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Tyler Thornburg from Triple-A St. Paul.
Thornburg, 33, appeared in two games for the Saints since signing on June 3, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (3.0 IP), allowing two unearned runs, three hits, no walks and five strikeouts. The Houston, Texas native pitched in nine games for the Atlanta Braves earlier this season, posting a 3.86 ERA (9.1 IP, 4 ER), with three walks and 10 strikeouts, while holding opponents scoreless in seven of his nine outings. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound right-hander has appeared in 201 career major league games (10 starts), going 16-9 with a 3.49 ERA (278.2 IP, 108 ER), 121 walks, 283 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP with Milwaukee (2012-16), Boston (2018-19), Cincinnati (2020) and Atlanta (2022).
To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Chi Chi González for release or assignment. González made the start for the Twins yesterday against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing three runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings pitched, with no walks and three strikeouts in a 6-5 victory
