LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the New York Yankees in the 120th Fall Classic for Games 1 and 2 at Dodger Stadium tomorrow, October 25, and Saturday, October 26. Both matchups will begin at 5:08 p.m. PT and will be nationally televised on FOX. In addition, the Dodgers will honor the memory of legendary pitcher Fernando Valenzuela during pregame ceremonies before Game 1. Should it be necessary for the World Series return to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Friday, November 1 and Game 7 on Saturday, November 2, both games will start at 5:08 p.m. PT.
This will be the 12th Fall Classic matchup between the Dodgers and Yankees, with the Dodgers winning the last meeting in 1981 for their sixth World Series title. The Dodgers are making their fourth trip to the World Championship in the last eight years, having won the World Series in 2020 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees’ last World Series win came in 2009 as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dodgers’ route to the World Series included a win in the Division Series over their NL West opponent, the San Diego Padres, three games to two. In the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets, the Dodgers claimed their 25th National League pennant with a 10-5 victory in Game 6. Both series wins thus far have occurred at Dodger Stadium, and both series featured two shutout wins against each opponent. In the American League, the New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals, three games to one, in the Division Series. As their attention turned to the Cleveland Guardians, the Yankees became the American League champions after five games with both series victories occurring on the road.
During pregame ceremonies before Game 1, the Dodgers will honor the life and legacy of Feranando Valenzuela, who passed away Tuesday night at the age of 63. The legendary southpaw from Etchohuaquila, Sonora, Mexico made his Major League debut at age 19 in 1980 and spent 11 years donning Dodger blue, becoming the first and only player in baseball history to win Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards in the same season in 1981. The Dodgers won their fifth World Series title against none other than the New York Yankees that same year and Valenzuela was the winning pitcher in Game 3.
A No. 34 patch will be worn on all Dodger jerseys for the duration of the 2024 World Series in honor of Valenzuela. A printed commemorative mural will adorn the left field wall of Dodger Stadium, adjacent to the Left Field stadium entrance gates. Before pregame ceremonies begin, a special tribute video for Valenzuela will play on the DodgerVision video boards. Additionally, a mariachi performance featuring Julian Torres y Deyra Barrera will be held in the Left Field Pavilion to honor the beloved Spanish broadcaster of the Dodgers. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats at 4:25 p.m. to witness all aspects of the tribute.
World Series champions Orel Hershiser (1988) and Steve Yeager (1981) will be throwing the ceremonial first pitches ahead of Game 1 on Friday. Both men earned or shared Most Valuable Player honors in their respective Fall Classics and have been a staple in the Dodger organization as coaches and notable alumni. Country music singer and three-time Grammy Award winner Brad Paisley will sing the national anthem. A flyover will be conducted by three Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets and one Navy F-16 Fighting Falcon during the Star Spangled Banner, as a grand flag is unfurled in centerfield. Actor, filmmaker and avid Dodger fan Bryan Cranston will say, “It’s Time for Dodger Baseball” before Game 1.
Game 2 of the World Series will include fan-favorite Dodger outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier throwing out the ceremonial first pitches. The pair played across two decades in the Dodgers organization, including nine years together. Kemp and Ethier were a dynamic duo, earning a combined five All-Star selections, three Gold Glove awards and two Silver Sluggers. Pearle Peterson, a 19-year-old singer from Washington, will perform the national anthem ahead of Game 2 of the Fall Classic for the second year in a row.
Additional new dishes will be served at Dodger Stadium during the World Series, including chili oil pork dumplings, served with shiitake mushrooms and narutomaki (Reserve sec. 4, Field sec. 48); a chicken karaage bowl, a Korean Fried Chicken dish served over steamed rice with miso dressing (Field sec. 8); and a deep fried peanut butter and Nutella sandwich, featuring Texas toast, bananas and strawberries, deep fried in funnel cake batter (Field sec. 46, Reserve sec. 2). For more information, fans can visit the Guest Services stands throughout the ballpark.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early with both auto and stadium gates opening three hours prior to first pitch at 2:08 p.m. The Dodger Stadium Express from Union Station will begin operation 120 minutes before first pitch and services will begin 150 minutes before first pitch from the South Bay. Both operations will run 45 minutes after the final out or 20 minutes after the end of any post-game event.
LADF will conduct its 50/50 raffle during the World Series at Dodger home games. LADF’s Homebase Store in Centerfield Plaza has “Buy It Now” autographed memorabilia and branded merchandise, including $10 t-shirts and bobbleheads. LADF is making a “Lasting Impact for Los Angeles” and is encouraging fans to visit Dodgers.com/Give.
