Texas Rangers continue 50th anniversary celebration during this weekend’s series with World Champion Atlanta Braves

Team to wear 1972-style uniforms on Saturday Facing Nolan documentary presented by Kroger to be screened after Sunday’s game

Arlington, Texas—The Texas Rangers will continue their celebration of the team’s 50th Anniversary in Arlington with several events during this weekend’s series with the defending World Champion Atlanta Braves, Friday, April 29 (7:05 p.m.), Saturday, April 30 (6:05 p.m.), and Sunday, May 1 (1:35 p.m.) at Globe Life Field.

For Saturday’s game, the Rangers will wear the home white style uniforms that debuted in 1972 and with minor modifications, were essentially utilized through the 1982 season. The original Rangers blue cap with a red bill and batting helmet with a similar design were worn until 1986.

The Rangers are also scheduled to wear the retro uniforms on June 25 vs. Washington, August 13 vs. Seattle, September 25 vs. Cleveland, and October 5 vs. the New York Yankees.

On Sunday the Rangers, in conjunction with The Ranch Productions and Utopia, will host the first major public screening of Facing Nolan, the new documentary about the life and career of legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who played his final five seasons in Arlington from 1989-93. Presented by Kroger, the 105-minute documentary will be shown on the in-park video boards following the Rangers’ 1:35 p.m. game with the Braves. Sunday, May 1, which is the 31st anniversary of Ryan’s seventh and final no-hitter in 1991 against Toronto at Arlington Stadium.

Prior to the screening of Facing Nolan, an on-field Q and A featuring Nolan Ryan and Rangers Hall of Fame public address announcer Chuck Morgan will take place. A number of former Rangers who are featured in the film and were part of Ryan’s 7th no-hitter will attend Sunday’s screening, including General Manager Tom Grieve, manager Bobby Valentine, pitching coach Tom House, shortstop Jeff Huson, third baseman Steve Buechele, and pitcher Bobby Witt. Facing Nolan Director Bradley Jackson will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Other 50th anniversary initiatives during the Braves series:

50th Anniversary Promotional Giveaways: All three games of the Braves series will feature promotional giveaways celebrating the 50th Anniversary season. On Friday, the first 15,000 fans receive a pack of 1970’s 50th Anniversary Baseball Cards presented by Globe Life, the first in a series of five baseball card giveaways this season.

On Saturday, the first 15,000 fans will receive a 50th Anniversary Jim Sundberg Bobblehead presented by Coca-Cola, the first of five giveaways this season featuring bobbleheads designed to reflect the “old-time look” of Bobbleheads of the 1970’s. Sundberg will also throw a ceremonial first pitch.

On Sunday, the first 15,000 fans receive a Nolan Ryan Pitching Rubber presented by Nolan Ryan Beef.

--Alumni Autographs: The New Era Alumni Autograph Alley on the Globe Life Field main concourse will feature pitcher Darren Oliver on Friday, April 29 from 5:15-6:15 and Rangers Hall of Fame pitcher Jeff Russell and former pitching coach Tom House on Saturday, April 30 from 4:15-5:15.

--Commemorative Poster Series: The Rangers have collaborated with local artists to create a series of five limited edition 50th anniversary commemorative posters. The second poster in the series (SEE ATTACHED) has been produced by Hunter Moehring and will be available for sale at the Rangers-Braves game on Saturday, April 30. Only 250 of the posters have been produced and will be sold for $25.00 each at the Rangers Authentics kiosk at Globe Life Field with the proceeds benefitting the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. Additional posters will be released throughout the 2022 season.

--Honoring Taunee Taylor: Prior to Sunday’s game, the Rangers will rename the team’s Globe Life Field Major League Family Room and Nursery the Taunee Taylor Family Room. Currently the Rangers Senior Director, Player & Family Services, Taylor has been an incredibly valuable liaison for players, spouses, and families for four decades. She celebrated her 40th year with the Texas organization in February 2022.
