Arlington, Texas— The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation today announced the six Richard Greene Scholars selected to receive $10,000 college scholarships and represent each of the Arlington ISD High Schools in an internship program throughout their senior year.
The Richard Greene Scholars for the 2023-24 school year include Kyree Burley (Bowie High School), Tivana Campbell (Seguin High School), Gianna Dangelmaier (Arlington High School), Christopher Montano (Sam Houston High School), Isabella Reneau (Lamar High School), and Daniel Tepedino (Martin High School).
Named for former Arlington Mayor Richard Greene, the Greene Scholars Program was established in 1997 as a collaborative effort with the City of Arlington and Arlington Independent School District to pay tribute to the mayor that led the campaign to keep the Rangers in Arlington.
Over the past 26 years, the program has provided $1.5 million in college scholarships to 150 Arlington ISD students, along with an immersive internship and leadership training opportunity that includes time with the City of Arlington, Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, River Legacy, Arlington ISD, UTA, Mission Arlington Mission Metroplex, Tarrant County Commissioners Court, and classroom experiences at the Dipert Career Technology Center.
In 2018, The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation's Richard Greene Scholars Program was recognized by Major League Baseball, winning the Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence. The award was presented to the Foundation by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and later celebrated at a reception attended by Greene and his wife, Sylvia, and several former Scholars.
The 2023-24 Richard Greene Scholars will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony before the Texas Rangers-Miami Marlins game on Saturday, August 5, at 3:05 p.m.
