Colorado Rockies reach contract agreement with right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacín

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacín on a one-year contract.

Chacín, 33, went 3-2 with a 4.34 ERA (64.1 IP, 31 ER) with 28 walks and 47 strikeouts in a career high 45 relief outings and one start for the Rockies in 2021, after signing as a Major League free agent on March … allowed an earned run seven times in his last 31 appearances from June 28 through the end of the season and was 2-1 with 16 holds, a 3.16 ERA (37.0 IP, 13 ER), .176 opponent average, 16 walks and 22 strikeouts over that span … career-long 12-inning scoreless streak across 10 appearances from June 28-Aug. 5 … went scoreless in 26 of his last 36 after June 12, going 3-1 with 17 holds, a 3.07 ERA, and a .178 opp. average … returned to Colorado after spending the first six years (2009-14) of his career with the Rockies, and ranks in the top 10 in franchise history in ERA (3.83, 2nd, min. 500 IP), strikeouts (561, 8th), wins (41, 9th) and innings pitched (736.1, 10th) … in his career at Coors Field, has gone 26-25 with a 4.12 ERA (415.1 IP, 190 ER) with 176 walks and 302 strikeouts in 92 games (64 games started) … originally signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted international free agent in 2004, the Maracaibo, Venezuela native has gone 81-89 with a 4.06 ERA (1388.1 IP, 626 ER) with 565 walks and 1,114 strikeouts in 303 career games (227 starts) over a 13-year career with Colorado (2009-14, 2021), Arizona (2015), Atlanta (2016), Los Angeles-AL (2016), San Diego (2017), Milwaukee (2018-19), Boston (2019) and Atlanta (2020).
