BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox will mark the start of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month today, Tuesday, May 3, in pregame ceremonies and with fan entertainment celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander culture prior to tonight’s 7:10 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Pregame ceremonies will recognize Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI, pronounced “quarry”), a local nonprofit that supports and empowers Asian and immigrant communities. For over twenty years, QARI has helped new immigrants and their family members navigate a range of social services while also providing workforce development, adult education, and cultural programs.

Tonight’s national anthem will be sung by Sheena Melwani, a singer and social media artist of Indian descent from Natick, who has sung “The Star-Spangled Banner” once before at Fenway Park in 2009. Additional cultural entertainment includes Chinese dragon and lion dances, as well as Japanese taiko drumming performances on Jersey Street. Northeastern University student Tia Midro of Kapolei, Hawaii will lead a Polynesian dance and music performance on the Sam Adams Deck before the game. Asian-inspired concession items will also be available in the Gate E concourse.
