Club Designates Left-Handed Pitcher Richard Bleier for Assignment
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Lamet, the club designated left-handed pitcher Richard Bleier for assignment. Lamet will wear number 32.
The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is at 39.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Lamet, 31, has posted a 4.61 ERA (185 ER/361.1 IP) with 11.71 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (470 strikeouts) in 117 Major League games (60 starts) for the San Diego Padres (2017-22) and Colorado Rockies (2022-23). This season, the right-hander allowed 33 runs in 25.2 innings over 16 games (four starts) for the Rockies, while also recording a 2.70 ERA (9 ER/30.0 IP) in eight Triple-A games (seven starts) for Albuquerque and Worcester. Originally signed by the Padres as a non-drafted international free agent on August 20, 2014, the Dominican native finished fourth in National League Cy Young Award voting in 2020 and earned All-MLB Second Team honors after going 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA (16 ER/69.0 IP) and 93 strikeouts.
Bleier, 36, has pitched in 27 games for the Red Sox this season, recording a 5.28 ERA (18 ER/30.2 IP). The left-hander was acquired by Boston from the Miami Marlins on January 30, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Barnes and cash considerations. Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native owns a 3.27 ERA (120 ER/330.1 IP) in 335 career games (two starts) with the New York Yankees (2016), Baltimore Orioles (2017-20), Marlins (2020-22), and Red Sox (2023).
