Red Sox select right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester

Club Designates Left-Handed Pitcher Rich Hill for Assignment

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 99. To make room, the club designated left-handed pitcher Rich Hill for assignment.

Guerrero, 24, owns a 3.31 ERA (20 ER/54.1 IP) with a .198 opponent batting average and 13.09 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (79 strikeouts) in 42 games with Worcester this season. The right-hander has allowed just one run in his last 10 outings dating back to August 4, posting a 0.68 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 13.1 innings during that span. Born in the Dominican Republic, Guerrero moved to Boston’s Franklin Park neighborhood as a child and grew up in the area. He was selected by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft and has posted a 2.93 ERA (48 ER/147.2 IP) in 118 career minor league games.

Hill, 44, pitched in four games for the Red Sox this season, allowing two runs in 3.2 innings. The Milton, MA native was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft and owns a 4.01 ERA (628 ER/1,409.0 IP) in 386 career Major League games (248 starts) with the Cubs (2005-08), Baltimore Orioles (2009), Red Sox (2009-12, 2015, 2022, 2024), Cleveland Guardians (2013), Los Angeles Angels (2014), New York Yankees (2014), Oakland Athletics (2016), Los Angeles Dodgers (2016-19), Minnesota Twins (2020), Tampa Bay Rays (2021), New York Mets (2021), Pittsburgh Pirates (2023), and San Diego Padres (2023).
