Red Sox reinstate outfielder Tyler O'Neill from 10-day injured list

Club Options Infielder/Outfielder Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room on the active roster, the club optioned infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester.

O’Neill, 29, was placed on the Injured List on August 7, retroactive to August 4, with a left leg infection. The right-handed hitter has batted .268 (80-298) with a .901 OPS, 59 runs scored, 16 doubles, and 22 home runs in 80 games this season. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Canada native has batted .251 (443-for-1,762) with 100 home runs and 262 RBI in 557 career games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23) and Red Sox (2024).

Sogard, 26, has played in 12 games for the Red Sox this season, his Major League debut, making nine starts at second base, two at shortstop, and one at third base. The switch-hitter has batted .227 (10-for-44) with six RBI. He has also played in 89 games for Worcester, batting .279 (96-for-279) with 12 home runs. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native was acquired by Boston in a four-player trade on February 17, 2021. He has played in 469 minor league games, batting .271 (446-for-1,647) with 36 home runs.
