Red Sox reinstate infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández from COVID-19 related injured list
Club options outfielder Jarren Duran To Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández from the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To make room for Hernández on the active roster, the club optioned outfielder Jarren Duran to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Hernández, 30, was placed on the COVID-19 Related Injured List yesterday. The right-handed hitter has started 24 of Boston’s 27 games this season in center field and ranks tied for second on the team with eight doubles and third with 15 runs scored. Hernández has eight RBI in his last 12 games. He ranks tied for third among American League center fielders with two defensive runs saved this season.
Duran, 25, was recalled from Worcester yesterday. The left-handed hitter started last night’s game against the White Sox in center field and went 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Duran is batting .397 (23-for-58) with a 1.116 OPS, 15 runs, eight extra-base hits, 11 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 15 games for Worcester this season. He is ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ No. 4 prospect and the No. 84 prospect in baseball.
