Red Sox place left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino on COVID-19 related injured list
Club recalls left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino on the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To fill Bernardino’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Bernardino, 31, pitched in yesterday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, striking out the only batter he faced. The left-hander has posted a 2.55 ERA (12 ER/42.1 IP) in 43 games (six starts) for Boston this season, including 32 scoreless outings. Claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on April 16, Bernardino has also allowed two runs (one earned) over 5.0 innings in three games for Worcester.
Murphy, 25, has posted a 3.72 ERA (16 ER/38.2 IP) in 13 games with Boston this season, his Major League debut. Selected by the Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the left-hander has also recorded a 7.01 ERA (34 ER/43.2 IP) in 12 games (nine starts) with Worcester in 2023.
