Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Recalled catcher Tyler Heineman and right-handed pitchers Isaiah Campbell and Josh Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Placed catcher Connor Wong on the Paternity Leave List.
  • Optioned left-handed pitcher Cam Booser and right-handed pitcher Brad Keller to Worcester.

Heineman, 32, has played in one Major League game this season, starting as the Red Sox’ designated hitter on April 21 at Pittsburgh. In 30 games with Worcester, the switch-hitter has batted .242 (23-for-95) with 15 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .217 (54-for-249) in 105 career Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).

Campbell, 26, has pitched in 12 Major League games this season, allowing one run in his first five outings (4.1 IP) and nine runs (eight earned) in his last two (2.0 IP). The right-hander also owns a 2.19 ERA (3 ER/12.1 IP) with 18 strikeouts and three walks in 11 games with Worcester. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in Competitive Balance Round B of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the University of Arkansas product has posted a 4.63 ERA (18 ER/35.0 IP) in 34 career Major League outings with Seattle (2023) and Boston (2024).

Winckowski, 25, owns a 3.33 ERA (9 ER/24.1 IP) in 12 Major League games (three starts) this season, while posting a 2.87 mark (10 ER/31.1 IP) in seven games (six starts) with Worcester. Originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Ohio native has recorded a 4.12 ERA (82 ER/179.0 IP) in 87 career Major League games (18 starts), all with the Red Sox (2022-24).

Wong, 28, has batted .330 (66-for-200) with 26 runs scored, seven home runs, and an .870 OPS in 57 games this season, leading Major League catchers in batting average (min. 100 PA). The right-handed hitter has played in 216 Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2021-24), batting .263 (166-for-632) with 36 doubles, 17 home runs, and 73 RBI. A Texas native, he was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.

Booser, 32, has posted a 3.21 ERA (10 ER/28.0 IP) with 33 strikeouts in 26 games this season, his Major League debut. The left-hander has also pitched in four games with Worcester, allowing two runs in 6.2 innings while striking out 15 batters. The Washington native was signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on February 6, 2023.

Keller, 28, was signed by Boston as a free agent on May 26. The right-hander has pitched in 14 games this season for the Chicago White Sox (five games) and Boston (nine games), recording a 5.13 ERA (19 ER/33.1 IP). Originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 4.31 ERA (19 ER/33.1 IP) in 164 career Major League games (116 starts) for the Kansas City Royals (2018-23), White Sox (2024), and Red Sox (2024).
