Red Sox Announce Roster Moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Placed infielder Vaughn Grissom on the 10-Day Injured List with a right hamstring strain.
  • Placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to May 31, with a left hamstring strain.
  • Transferred right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock to the 60-Day Injured List.
  • Selected infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 73.
  • Recalled infielder/outfielder Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Worcester.

Boston’s 40-Man Roster is now at 40.

Grissom, 23, was removed from yesterday’s game against the Detroit Tigers after the second inning. The right-handed hitter has played in 23 games this season, making 22 starts at second base and one as the designated hitter while batting .148 (12-for-81).

Gonzalez, 27, has played in 17 Major League games this season, batting .257 (8-for-35) with six RBI while making six starts at shortstop, one at first base, and one as the designated hitter, and appearing in two games in right field and one at third base. The right-handed hitter also played in 10 games with Worcester, batting .333 (13-for-39) with three home runs and 13 RBI.

Whitlock, 27, on Thursday underwent a successful right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair with internal brace, performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Center in Birmingham, Alabama. The right-hander pitched in four games this season, posting a 1.96 ERA (4 ER/18.1 IP) with 17 strikeouts.

Westbrook, 28, has played in 1,159 minor league games from 2013-24, batting .279 (1,179-for-4,233) with 633 runs scored, 125 home runs, and 593 RBI. Originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Holyoke, Massachusetts native has spent time in the minor league systems of the Diamondbacks (2013-19), Milwaukee Brewers (2021-22), Detroit Tigers (2022), New York Yankees (2023), and Red Sox (2024). The right-handed hitter has played in 49 games for Worcester this season, batting .267 (44-for-165) with 25 runs scored and 29 RBI while making 20 starts at third base, 12 in right field, five at second base, five as the designated hitter, and four at first base.

Dalbec, 28, has played in 22 Major League games this season, making nine starts at first base, six at third base, and one as the designated hitter while batting .132 (7-for-53). The right-handed hitter has also played in 26 games for Worcester this season, batting .245 (25-for-102) with an .859 OPS, 19 runs scored, five doubles, eight home runs, and 25 RBI.
