Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Martin from the 15-Day Injured List.
  • Recalled infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to August 4, with a left leg infection.
  • Optioned left-handed pitcher Cam Booser to Worcester.

Martin, 38, was placed on the Injured List on July 4 with right elbow inflammation. The right-hander has pitched in 26 games this season, posting a 3.42 ERA (10 ER/26.1 IP) with 29 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native owns a 3.37 ERA (123 ER/328.2 IP) in 350 career games with the Rockies (2014), New York Yankees (2015), Texas Rangers (2018-19), Atlanta Braves (2019-21), Chicago Cubs (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers (2022), and Red Sox (2023-24).

Valdez, 25, has played in 56 games for Boston this season, making 45 starts at second base and one as the designated hitter while batting .226 (37-for-164) with six home runs and 26 RBI. The left-handed hitter has also played in 40 games for Worcester, batting .239 (37-for-155) with nine home runs and 21 RBI. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2015, the Dominican Republic native has batted .244 (74-for-303) with a .721 OPS, 12 home runs, and 45 RBI in 105 games with the Red Sox (2023-24).

O’Neill, 29, has batted .268 (80-for-298) with a .901 OPS, 59 runs scored, 16 doubles, and 22 home runs in 80 games this season. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Canada native has batted .251 (443-for-1,762) with 100 home runs and 262 RBI in 557 career games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23) and Red Sox (2024).

Booser, 32, has posted a 2.77 ERA (12 ER/39.0 IP) with 38 strikeouts in 38 games this season, his Major League debut. The left-hander has also pitched in six games with Worcester, allowing seven runs in 9.0 innings while striking out 18 batters. The Washington native was signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on February 6, 2023.
