Rays infielder Junior Caminero was named 2023 Breakout Player of the Year during Minor League Baseball’s inaugural award show on Monday night. The other finalists for the award included Chicago-NL RHP Cade Horton and Milwaukee RHP Jacob Misiorowski.

Caminero was also tabbed as the Best Defensive Third Baseman in High-A and a First-Team Minor League All-Star by Baseball America.

His 31 home runs on the season were tied for seventh most among minor leaguers and tied for fourth most by a Rays farmhand in franchise history.

He was named Southern League Player of the Month for August after leading the circuit in home runs (10), total bases (66), slugging pct. (.710) and OPS (1.127).

Caminero had his contract selected from Montgomery on September 22 and made his debut the same day, becoming the sixth Montgomery Biscuit, including the first position player, to be promoted directly to the Rays, joining José Alvarado (2017), Hunter Wood (2017), Chad Orvella (2005), John Webb (2004) and Scott Kazmir (2004).

He was 20 years, 80 days old at the time of his debut, becoming the youngest player to appear in a major league game this season and the second-youngest player to debut for the Rays, trailing only B.J. Upton (19 years, 347 days).
