Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel from Triple-A Round Rock.  Keuchel is the Rangers’ scheduled starting pitcher for tonight’s home game against the Detroit Tigers.

On Friday, the Rangers placed left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to August 23, with a left calf strain.  With the addition of Keuchel, the Rangers now have 26 players on the active roster and a full 40-man Major League roster.

Keuchel, 34, agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Rangers on July 25, and he has a 1-0 record with a 2.31 ERA (6 ER/23.1 IP) over 4 games/starts with the Express.  Opponents have slashed .163/.264/.250/.514 with 11 walks and 22 strikeouts against Keuchel in those 4 starts.  He ended his Triple-A run with 9.0 consecutive scoreless innings, including 7.0 shutout frames in his last start on August 19 vs. El Paso (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 SO, 89 pitches/61 strikes).

Keuchel has combined to go 2-7 with an 8.53 ERA (48 ER/50.2 IP) over 12 games/starts with Chicago-AL and Arizona this season, as his last MLB outing came in a start with the D-backs on July 12 at San Francisco.  The 11-year MLB veteran has a career 101-89 record with a 3.92 ERA over 266 games/255 starts for Houston (2012-18), Atlanta (2019), Chicago-AL (2020-22), and Arizona (2022).  He won the 2015 American League Cy Young Award after posting a career-high 20 wins that season, and he was twice selected to the A.L. All-Star team (2015 and 2017) while with the Astros.  He is also a five-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner in the American League (2014-15-16-18-21).
