Moore will be active for tonight’s game against Los Angeles Angels
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz on the 10-day injured list with right elbow soreness. To take his place on the active roster, the team has selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Matt Moore (#45) from Triple-A Round Rock.
Moore, 32, will be active for tonight’s 6:05 p.m. CT game against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field. The left-hander has made two relief appearances for Round Rock this season, going 1-0 with 5.0 scoreless innings and 2 hits allowed while striking out 7 of 17 batters faced. He last pitched on Wednesday at Sugar Land (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO, 33 pitches/20 strikes).
Moore signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on March 14, marking a return to the Texas organization. He made 39 appearances/12 starts for Texas in his only season with the club in 2018 after beginning that campaign in the starting rotation. Moore spent 2021 with Philadelphia, totaling 24 games/13 starts for the Phillies. Overall, Moore has a 56-60 record and 4.64 ERA over 205 games/164 starts in his Major League career with Tampa Bay (2011-16), San Francisco (2016-17), Texas (2018), Detroit (2019), and Philadelphia (2021).
Sborz has made four relief appearances for the Rangers this season, allowing 5 runs in 4.0 innings. The right-hander is in his second season with Texas after being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade on Feb. 16, 2021.
