Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom on the 15-day Injured List with right elbow inflammation and recalled right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodríguez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Rodríguez, 25, has posted no record and a 1.93 ERA (2 ER/9.1 IP) over seven relief outings with Round Rock this season, last pitching on Tues. vs. Albuquerque (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO, 23 pitches/13 strikes). The right-hander has struck out 14 of 38 (36.8%) batters faced at Triple-A in 2023, issuing 3 walks and allowing just one extra-base hit (double). In three Cactus League ‘A’ game appearances this spring, Rodríguez registered a 12.00 ERA (4 ER/3.0 IP) with 3 strikeouts/one walk and one home run allowed. His lone Major League action to date came in MLB debut on Oct. 5, 2022 vs. New York-AL (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO), the Rangers’ final game of the 2022 campaign. The Dominican Republic native has compiled a lifetime 25-13 record with 6 saves, a 3.64 ERA (124 ER/343.1 IP), and 10.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings figure over 126 games/53 starts in the minor leagues. He has spent all seven seasons of his professional career in the Texas organization since signing with the club as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 2, 2015.

DeGrom, 34, has gone 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA (9 ER/30.1 IP) and 45 strikeouts/4 walks over six starts for the Rangers in 2023. He exited early from last night’s game with right forearm tightness after logging 3.2 scoreless innings in Texas’ 5-2 victory over the visiting New York Yankees (1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 50 pitches/32 strikes). This will be the first Injured List stint of the season for the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, as he avoided missing time following another early exit from his start on April 17 at Kansas City (4.0 IP) due to right wrist soreness. DeGrom, who entered today ranked among American League qualifiers in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (1st, 13.35), WHIP (2nd, 0.76), opp. BA (3rd, .171), and ERA (10th), is in the first season of a five-year free agent contract signed with the Rangers on Dec. 2, 2022. The four-time All-Star owns a career 84-57 record, 2.53 ERA (381 ER/1356.1 IP), and 1,652 strikeouts over 215 appearances/starts across 10 Major League seasons spent with the New York Mets (2014-22) and Texas (2023).
