Pirates sign catcher Andrew Knapp
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed catcher Andrew Knapp to a Major League contract. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Ben Cherington.
Knapp, 30, attended spring training this year with the Reds as a non-roster player after spending each of his previous nine professional seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Knapp, who was a member of the Phillies Opening Day roster each of the last five seasons (2017- 2021), made 47 appearances behind the plate in 2021, along with six appearances at first base and one at second base.
Selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Knapp made his Major League debut in 2017. He appeared in a career-high 84 games with the Phillies in 2018.
Knapp will be wearing uniform #31.
