Pirates set 40-man roster
The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected the following four players to their 40-man roster:
Mike Burrows (RHP) - The 23-year-old is currently rated as Pittsburgh’s No. 8 prospect according to MLB Pipeline (No. 5 in Baseball America’s mid-season rankings)...Represented the Pirates organization at the 2022 All-Star Futures Game...Began the 2022 campaign with Altoona before being promoted to Indianapolis on June 16...Ranked sixth in the Eastern League in ERA (2.94) and batting average against (.199) and seventh in strikeouts (69) at the time of his promotion to Triple-A...Was tabbed by Baseball America as having the “Best Curveball” in Pittsburgh’s minor league system coming into this year...Posted a 2.20 ERA (49.0ip/12er) in 13 starts in 2021 with Greensboro...Has posted a 3.36 ERA (201.0ip/75er), 229 strikeouts and .213 batting average against in 52 appearances (49 starts) since making his professional debut in 2018...Was selected by the Pirates in the 11th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.
Endy Rodriguez (C) - The 22-year-old hit a combined .323 (148-for-458) with 39 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs, 95 RBI, .407 OBP, .590 slugging percentage and .997 slugging percentage in 125 games between Greensboro, Altoona and Indianapolis in 2022...Enters today rated among the top 100 prospects in the industry by both Baseball America (#95) and MLB Pipeline (#97)...Finished the 2022 season with the fifth-highest OPS (.997) among all qualified full-season minor league players...Is one of just two players in all of MiLB to to take home league MVP honors (Florida State and South Atlantic) in each of the last two seasons along with Jonathan Aranda of the Rays organization...Led all Pirates minor leaguers this past season in batting, OBP, slugging, OPS, hits, doubles, extra base hits (68) and total bases (270) while being named the organization’s Honus Wagner Player-of-the-Year.
Colin Selby (RHP) - The 25-year-old went a combined 2-3 with eight saves, a 2.27 ERA (35.2ip/9er), 43 strikeouts and .221 batting average against in 29 appearances (one start) between Altoona and Indianapolis in 2022...Surrendered just one home run in 32.2 innings of work with the Curve...Was scored upon once in nine appearances (9.0ip/2er) for the Surprise Saguaros during the Arizona Fall League...Held righthanders to a .503 OPS with Greensboro in 2021 while pitching exclusively in relief for the first time in his career...Has recorded a 3.47 ERA (231.0ip/89er), 237 strikeouts and .213 batting average against in 88 appearances (29 starts) since making his professional debut in 2018...Was drafted by the Pirates in the 16th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.
Jared Triolo (INF/OF) - The 24-year-old spent the entire 2022 season with Altoona, where he finished second in the league in batting (.282), third in OBP (.376) and seventh in hits (120)...Took home the organization’s Bill Mazeroski Defender-of-the-Year honors for the second straight time this past season while seeing playing time at third base, shortstop and center field...Was selected 72nd overall by the Pirates in the Competitve Balance B round phase of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft...Earned a Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award at third base in 2021 while entering this season rated by Baseball America as the “Best Defensive Infielder” in Pittsburgh’s minor league system.
To make room on the 40-man roster, C Tyler Heineman, RHP Jeremy Beasley, RHP Junior Fernandez and LHP Manny Banuelos have been designated for assignment. The 40-man roster remains at 40 players.
