Roster move
The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled infielder Nick Gonzales from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Infielder Alika Williams has been optioned to Triple-A to make room for Gonzales on the 28-man active roster.
Gonzales produced a .338 average (27-for-80), 15 RBI and a 1.099 OPS in 21 games during the month of September with Indianapolis while hitting .424 (14-for-33) and scoring 13 runs over his final seven games. He ranked first in the International League in extra base hits (15) and total bases (57), third in slugging (.713), sixth in OPS (1.099) and tied for first in home runs (six) during the month of September.
This is Gonzales’ second stint with the Pirates this season after also being with the team from June 23 to August 3.
The 24-year-old Gonzales finished the 2023 campaign leading all Pirates minor leaguers in extra base hits (49) while ranking fourth in batting (.281) and total bases (191), third in slugging (.507) and OPS (.886) and sixth in OBP (.379).
He will wear uniform No. 39.
