Pirates acquire pitcher Colin Holderman from New York Mets
The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Colin Holderman from the New York Mets in exchange for designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach. Additionally, the Pirates have activated outfielder Greg Allen from the 60-day injured list and designated for assignment catcher Michael Perez.
The 26-year-old Holderman has allowed an earned run in just two of his 15 appearances this season with the Mets, going 4-0 with a 2.04 ERA (17.2ip/4er), 18 strikeouts, no home runs allowed, a 1.02 WHIP and .186 batting average against in 15 appearances.
Holderman was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse on May 15 and allowed one earned run in his first nine big league outings, becoming one of just 11 relief pitchers in Mets history to allow one or fewer earned runs through his first nine Major League games.
The 6’7’’ righthander has stranded each of his eight inherited runners this year with the Mets while also holding opponents to a .188 batting average with runners on base (6-for-32).
Holderman was selected by the Mets in the ninth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Heartland (IL) Community College.
He has gone 8-7 with 11 saves, a 3.82 ERA (160.1ip/68er), 136 strikeouts and .216 batting average against in 65 appearances (26 starts) during his minor league career.
