Phillies Sign Kepler
The Phillies have signed outfielder Max Kepler to a one-year contract, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski announced today.
Kepler, 31, spent the first 10 years of his major league career with the Minnesota Twins. Over 1,072 games and 4,251 plate appearances, Kepler has slashed .237/.318/.429 with a .746 OPS. In 2019, he posted an .855 OPS with 36 home runs in 134 games. In 2023, he posted an .816 OPS and hit 24 home runs in 130 games.
Defensively, Kepler has made 826 starts in right field and 127 starts in center field over his 10-year career. Among all major league right fielders since 2016, he ranks first in Outs Above Average with 57 (next: Mookie Betts, 56 OAA) and fourth in Defensive Runs Saved with 48, trailing only Betts (129 DRS), Aaron Judge (59 DRS) and Jason Heyward (57 DRS).
Of his 893 career hits, 382 have been for extra bases (43%) and among all American League outfielders since 2016, he ranks fourth in extra-base hits behind only Judge (493), George Springer (439) and Mike Trout (429).
In six career games at Citizens Bank Park over 23 plate appearances, Kepler has hit four home runs and posted a .955 slugging percentage.
A native of Berlin, Germany, Kepler was originally signed by the Twins as an amateur free agent in 2009.
