Prior to tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte was optioned to Lehigh Valley and to make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Luis Ortiz was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Phillips will wear No. 48.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Phillips, 26, has made 15 starts for Lehigh Valley this season, going 7-3 with a 4.89 ERA (50 ER, 92.0 IP) and 78 strikeouts. He has pitched two complete games this season and is the only pitcher in triple-A to have multiple complete games this year. The Lumberton, N.J., native has also gone at least 6.0 innings in 12 of his 15 starts.

Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Phillips was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on July 24, 2021, and attended major league spring training as a non-roster invitee this year.

Marte, 29, has made 15 appearances in his two stints with the Phillies this season with a 3.31 ERA (6 ER, 16.1 IP) and 15 strikeouts. Marte was on the 15-day injured list from May 3 to June 24 with right shoulder inflammation and was reinstated and optioned to Lehigh Valley on June 25 before being recalled to the Phillies two days later.

The Santo Domingo, D.R., native was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals as an amateur free agent on July 19, 2012. He was acquired by the Phillies from the San Francisco Giants on Jan. 8, 2023.
