PHILLIES ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES

Prior to tonight’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, the Phillies made the following roster moves.

  • Reinstated infielder Josh Harrison from the 10-day injured list (right wrist contusion)
  • Recalled outfielder Jake Cave from triple-A Lehigh Valley
  • Optioned infielder Drew Ellis to Lehigh Valley
  • Optioned infielder Darick Hall to Lehigh Valley following yesterday’s game

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcements.

Harrison, 36, has hit .219 (21-96) with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored over 39 games for the Phillies this season. Defensively, he has appeared at five different positions: 15 games at third base, 10 games at second base, six games in left field, two games in right field and twice as pitcher, working 1.2 innings.

Originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round of the 2008 MLB Draft, Harrison signed with the Phillies as a free agent on Jan. 30, 2023.

Cave made the Phillies Opening Day roster and hit .222 (14-63) with four doubles, one home run, nine RBI, six walks and three stolen bases in 20 games. Since being optioned to Lehigh Valley on May 1, the 30-year-old has posted a .346/.429/.684 slash line (1.113 OPS) with 82 hits, 30 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs, 49 RBI, 31 walks and two stolen bases. Additionally, Cave was named International League Player of the Month for May and IL Player of the Week for May 22-28.

Cave was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Dec. 2, 2022. He was originally selected by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Ellis, 27, has hit .217 (5-23) with two home runs, four RBI and six walks across 12 games in two stints with the Phillies this season. Defensively, he made six appearances (three starts) at first base and four appearances (all starts) at third base.

Ellis was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on April 12, 2023 and was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Hall has appeared in 18 games over two stints with the Phillies this season, hitting .167 (9-54) with one double, one home run, three RBI and two walks. The 27-year-old made the Phillies Opening Day roster before going on the 10-day injured list (right thumb sprain) and being optioned to Lehigh Valley. Hall was the recipient of the Paul Owens Award in 2022, presented annually to the organization’s top minor league player.

He was selected by the Phillies in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
