Phillies announce baseball operations promotions and hires

The Phillies have announced the following promotions and hires in baseball operations that have recently taken place:

Corinne Landrey has been promoted to director, baseball operations. In her role, Landrey supports player procurement integration initiatives and assists with roster management, transactions and salary arbitration. Landrey joined the Phillies baseball operations department in 2017 as an intern and was hired as an analyst in baseball research and development that October. Before joining the Phillies, she began her baseball career as a public analyst for outlets including MLB.com, FanGraphs and The Hardball Times.

Ben Werthan moves into the newly created role of director, baseball development. Werthan will oversee advance scouting, hitting and pitching development analysis and major and minor league video. Werthan will also support Phillies player evaluation and player procurement processes while working closely with leadership to promote organizational alignment and guide future research. Originally hired by the Phillies prior to the 2018 season, Werthan spent four years as the club’s minor league player information coordinator. Prior to joining the Phillies, Werthan spent seven seasons (2011-17) with the Baltimore Orioles, including six as the advance scouting coordinator.

Ray Robles has been promoted to director, international operations. In his role, Robles will lead all international business operations related to the Dominican Republic and Venezuela academies while also directing immigration and visa procurement services for foreign players and staff. Robles, who joined the Phillies in 2010, began his career with the club as an administrative assistant in minor league operations. He was promoted to coordinator, international operations in 2013 and again to assistant director, international operations in 2017.

Joe Cynar has been promoted to director, minor league training facilities and equipment. As director, Joe will lead efforts related to Carpenter Complex maintenance and building systems, clubhouse services, domestic and international equipment services and complex expansion and construction processes. Cynar has been with the Phillies since the late 1980s and served as a batboy, clubhouse assistant and facility operations manager at Jack Russell Stadium. He was hired full time by the Phillies in 2006.

Chris Whiting has been hired as major league video coordinator. Whiting joins the Phillies after spending the last six seasons with the New York Yankees, where he served most recently as their minor league video coordinator. Whiting will oversee the implementation and utilization of regular and high-speed video at the major league level, facilitate the coaching efforts of the major league staff, collaborate with the advance scouting department and provide guidance to the minor league video coordinator. Prior to his time with the Yankees, Whiting spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Joe Rauch has been promoted to major league assistant athletic trainer after spending the last two seasons as the major league physical therapist. Rauch joined the Phillies in 2015 and spent his first five seasons as the minor league athletic training and rehabilitation coordinator. Before coming to the Phillies, Rauch worked for NovaCare Rehabilitation in Philadelphia and was the physical therapist for LaSalle University Athletics. Prior to his arrival in Philadelphia, Rauch spent five years at the University of Cincinnati, most recently as the trainer for the athletics department and director of rehabilitation for the university’s football, basketball and baseball teams.

Christian Bermudez has been promoted to major league assistant athletic trainer after being named medical operations liaison in November of 2021. Bermudez joined the Phillies for the 2021 season, serving as the athletic trainer for triple-A Lehigh Valley. Before his time with the Phillies, he worked for the Houston Astros organization for eight years. During his time with the Astros, he served as an athletic trainer at various levels and spent 2017 as the club’s Latin American medical coordinator.

Sam Myers was promoted to medical operations liaison after spending the 2021 season as the certified athletic trainer at the Dominican Republic Academy. This is a new position for the medical staff and was constructed to help serve various administrative duties at both the major and minor league levels. Myers is a 2018 graduate of Sacramento State University with a degree in athletic training. She received her master’s degree in applied exercise science from Concordia University Chicago in 2020.

Dave Holliday has been hired as a special assignment scout after previously serving as a national crosschecker with the Colorado Rockies. Holliday brings over 30 years of experience with multiple clubs and has served as a special assistant to the general manager for both the Rockies and the Atlanta Braves.

Brad Sloan has been hired as a special assignment scout and brings over 30 years of experience, most recently serving as a special assignment scout with the Boston Red Sox. Sloan has also previously served as scouting director with the San Diego Padres and special assistant to the general manager with the Atlanta Braves.

In addition, Brad Flanders and Hector Rabago have been hired as major league bullpen catchers, which completes the Phillies’ 2022 major league coaching staff.
