The Phillies have added right-handed pitcher Luis Ortiz from triple-A Lehigh Valley as the additional player for today’s doubleheader against the San Diego Padres.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Ortiz, 27, has appeared in nine games for the Phillies this year over two stints with the club and has a 3.46 ERA (5 ER, 13.0 IP) with three walks and 10 strikeouts. The California native recorded the first save of his major league career in his most recent appearance with the club on June 13 against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. Over his 17 games (1 start) with the IronPigs this year, Ortiz has gone 1-0, with two saves and a 4.30 ERA (11 ER, 23.0 IP) with seven walks and 27 strikeouts.

Originally selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers, Ortiz was claimed off waivers by the Phillies from the San Francisco Giants on Nov. 9, 2022.
