September 20th, 2022

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced plans surrounding Hispanic Heritage Weekend presented by Blue Shield of California beginning Friday, September 30 and running through Sunday, October 2. The Padres will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month over the course of their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox culminating on Sunday with a postgame concert featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana.

The celebration starts on Friday, September 30 with Fiesta in the Park presented by Verizon prior to the game between the Padres and White Sox that night. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., fans will be able to enjoy a pregame fiesta featuring Latin music along with food and drink specials in Gallagher Square. The party will run through first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. and will also include other entertainment elements. Vicente Fernandez Jr., son of the late Mexican music legend Vicente Fernandez, will throw Friday’s Ceremonial First Pitch. The Padres will also don their City Connect uniforms on the field, which celebrate the binational community in which we live.

The Padres will also announce the recipients of the 11th annual Comunidad Awards presented by Cox during Friday’s pregame ceremonies, which recognize and pay tribute to individuals or organizations whose work has made a positive impact on those who live and work in San Diego’s Hispanic community. The 2022 recipients and charitable organizations receiving $2,500 from the Padres Foundation and $2,500 from Cox in their honor include Luz Quiroa (donation benefitting the Emilio Nares Foundation), Maria Garcia (donation benefitting the Bea Gonzales Biliteracy Scholarship fund), Clemente Casillas (donation benefitting the Community Youth Athletic Center (CYAC), Arnulfo Manriquez (donation benefitting MAAC), and Salma Amaya (donation benefitting El Patronato in Tijuana).

The festivities continue on Saturday, October 1 when Mariel Molino, San Diego native and star of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico and Freeform’s upcoming series The Watchful Eye, will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch before the weekend wraps on Sunday, October 2 with the final KidsFest of the season presented by SuperMouth. The family friendly event will feature a Hispanic Heritage theme while offering games, airbrush tattoo artists, balloon artists and other activities beginning two hours prior to first pitch at 1:10 p.m. Following the conclusion of the Padres vs. White Sox game, fans who purchase a special Theme Game package will be treated to a postgame concert featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana beginning approximately 30 minutes after the final out of the game. Expected to sell out, a special theme game package for Sunday is required for admission to the postgame concert and can be purchased at www.padres.com/tucanes.

A special Hispanic Heritage Weekend theme game ticket package is also available for all three dates and includes a game ticket and a limited-edition Hispanic-themed Padres hat.
