Padres to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Weekend

Three-day celebration highlighted by Fiesta in the Park and Los Tucanes de Tijuana Postgame concert

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced plans surrounding Hispanic Heritage Weekend presented by Blue Shield of California beginning Friday, September 20 and running through Sunday, September 22. The Padres will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month over the course of their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox culminating on Sunday with a postgame concert featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana (special theme game ticket required). Limited tickets remain for the Padres’ final home regular-season series.

The celebration starts on Friday, September 20 with Fiesta in the Park presented by Verizon prior to the game between the Padres and White Sox. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., fans will be able to enjoy a pregame fiesta featuring Latin music along with drink specials starting at $5 in Gallagher Square. The party will run through first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. and will also include other entertainment elements. Padres players & coaches will represent their respective countries during a pregame ceremony that will also feature the legendary Spanish voice of the Padres, Eduardo Ortega, announcing starting lineups in Spanish accompanied by a mariachi band. Following the game, fans will be treated to a special firework display presented by Northgate Market set to the tune of popular Latin musical artists. The Padres will also don their highly popular City Connect uniforms on the field that evening, celebrating the binational community in which we live.

The Padres will also announce the recipients of the 14th annual Comunidad Awards presented by COX during Friday’s pregame ceremonies, which recognize and pay tribute to individuals or organizations whose work has made a positive impact on those who live and work in San Diego’s Hispanic community. The 2024 recipients and charitable organizations receiving $2,500 from the Padres Foundation and $2,500 from Cox in their honor include Laura Diaz (donation benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), David Valladolid (donation benefitting the Parent Institute for Quality Education), Roberto Pozos (donation benefitting Chicano Park), Lisette Islas (donation benefitting the Lifeline Community Services), and Sister Armida Andrade (donation benefitting Casa de Los Pobres).

The festivities continue on Saturday, September 21 with dedicated in-game entertainment featuring Latin music and mariachis including the Padres House Band presented by Nova Kombucha. The Padres will also welcome the U-14 Pony World Series runner-up team from the Liga Municipal de Tijuana as part of the Padres Estrellas program presented by SDGE. As part of the pregame ceremonies, Padres third baseman Manny Machado will be recognized as the club’s Roberto Clemente nominee and will see Ortega return to once again recite the starting lineup in Spanish. The weekend wraps on Sunday, September 22 with the final KidsFest of the season presented by SDGE. The family friendly event will feature a Hispanic Heritage theme while offering games, airbrush tattoo artists, balloon artists and other activities beginning two and a half hours prior to first pitch. Following the conclusion of the Padres vs. White Sox game, fans who purchase a special Theme Game package will be treated to a postgame concert, presented by Coca-Cola, featuring Los Tucanes de Tijuana beginning approximately 30 minutes after the final out of the game. Expected to sell out, the theme game package for Sunday is required for admission to the postgame concert and can be purchased at www.padres.com/tucanes.

A special Hispanic Heritage Weekend theme game ticket package is also available for Friday and Saturday and includes a game ticket and a limited-edition Padres City Connect Sugar Skull bobblehead.
