What: It’s time to get ready for baseball! Nemours Children’s Health will host a pep rally to celebrate their partnership with the Philadelphia Phillies, one day before the season officially begins.
- The Phillie Phanatic and Phillies Ballgirls, along with Phillies Ambassadors Dickie Noles (1980 World Series champion) and Milt Thompson (1993 National League champion and 2008 World Series champion coach), will join the fun as associates and patients gather in their best Phillies attire to enjoy music, baseball snacks, themed decorations and more.
- The event will also feature a special surprise for 10-year-old Briar Jones, who will be presented with a personalized Phillies jersey, in honor of him being selected to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the upcoming team’s home opener.
In September, Jones was hit by a car while riding his bike and suffered fractures to his leg, both hands, clavicle, and skull as well as trauma to his leg and chest. After surgery and numerous physical therapy sessions, he has complete range of motion and will celebrate by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Two of Jones’ clinicians at Nemours will join him at the pep rally**, Dr. Duane Duke** (Trauma surgeon) and Dr. Arianna Trionfo (Orthopedic surgeon).
- Jones will also be surprised with a video message from Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh – all before he practices throwing pitches with the Phanatic and Phillies Ambassadors.
The Phillies season begins on Thursday, March 27, with the club’s Opening Day presented by Nemours Children's Health on Monday, March 31, at Citizens Bank Park.
