Miami Marlins acquire RHP Valente Bellozo and cash considerations from Houston Astros in exchange for INF Jacob Amaya
MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the club has acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Valente Bellozo and cash considerations from the Houston Astros in exchange for infielder Jacob Amaya.
Bellozo, 24, combined to go 3-4 with 5.55 ERA (110.1 ip/68 er) and 4 saves (5 save opportunities) in 26 games (16 starts) with Double-A Corpus Cristi and Single-A Asheville. With Corpus Cristi, he went 0-1 with 1.72 ERA (15.2/3) and 0.96 WHIP in 4 outings (3 starts).
Over his four-year career in the Astros Minor League system, Bellozo posted a 14-10 record and 3.45 ERA over 69 appearances, with 39 starts. He has held opponents to .222 average with 271 strikeouts to 78 walks. In 2019, he was named a Short-Season All-Star of the New York-Penn League by Baseball America.
Born in Baja California, Mexico, the right-hander was signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent on July 3, 2017.
Amaya, 25, appeared in 4 games with the Marlins last season, and 128 games with Triple-A Jacksonville. With the Jumbo Shrimp in 2023, he posted a .252 average and .756 OPS, with 15 home runs and 65 RBI. Over his Minor League career, he owns a slash line of .254/.357/.395 over 7 years.
Amaya was designated for assignment by the Marlins on April 2.
