FLUSHING, N.Y., December 27, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced the club has re-signed RHP Adam Ottavino to a one-year contract, with a player option for the 2024 season. In addition, the Mets designated RHP William Woods for assignment. 

Ottavino, 37, posted a 2.06 ERA (15 ER/65.2 IP) last year, the fourth-lowest mark by a Mets reliever in their first season with the club (min. 50 innings). He was one of nine relief pitchers last year with 60 or more outings and a sub 1.00 WHIP (0.975) with a strikeout percentage of 30 percent or higher (30.6%). He was also for sixth among NL relievers with six wins and tied for seventh in the NL with 19 holds.

“Adam has a long track record of success,” Mets General Manager Billy Eppler said. “He was a staple for us late in games last season, which shows the trust we have in him. We’re excited to have him back.”

A Brooklyn native, who graduated from Berkeley Carroll High School in Park Slope, held righties to a .161/.226/.253 slash line last season and owns a .207/.289/.320 career slash line against right-handers.

Ottavino has 727 career strikeouts, the eighth-most among active relievers. He racked up 79 strikeouts in 2022, his seventh season with 70 or more strikeouts since 2012, the fifth-most such seasons during that span.

The 6-5, 245-pounder has spent 12 years in the majors, posting a 38-34 mark with a 3.44 ERA (239 ER/625.1 IP) with the Rockies, Yankees, Cardinals, Red Sox and Mets.
