Mets Pitcher Díaz Disciplined

June 24th, 2024

Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations, announced today that New York Mets pitcher Edwin Díaz has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for violating the prohibitions on foreign substances, which resulted in his ejection prior to the bottom of the ninth inning of the Sunday, June 23rd game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Unless appealed, the suspension of Díaz will become effective on Tuesday, when the Mets are to host the New York Yankees at Citi Field. If Díaz elects to appeal, then the discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
