Mariners announce Double-A Arkansas staff for 2022 season
Cowgill named manager, O’Malley hitting coach, McGrath pitching coach and Jimenez fourth coach
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto, Director of Player Development Emanuel Sifuentes and Senior Director of High Performance Rob Scheidegger announced today the Double-A Arkansas Travelers staff for the 2022 season.
“My family and I are extremely excited to spend another season in Little Rock,” Travelers Manager Collin Cowgill said. “We loved being a part of the Travs and the Little Rock community in 2021, and we look forward to being back. Our coaching staff is very much looking forward to developing our players both on and off the field.”
Collin Cowgill is entering his second season in the Mariners organization as Manager for Double-A Arkansas. Cowgill began his coaching career in 2021 after appearing in parts of 6 Major League seasons as a player with Arizona (2011), Oakland (2012), New York-NL (2013), Los Angeles-AL (2013-15) Cleveland (2016). He spent 2020 spring training with Seattle, but did not play during the season.
During the 2021 season, Cowgill managed the Travelers to a 64-56 (.533) record in his first season as Manager.
Shawn O’Malley begins his third season in the Mariners organization, his first as hitting coach for Double-A Arkansas. He spent the 2021 season as hitting coach with High-A Everett, and was named as hitting coach for High-A Modesto prior to the cancellation of the minor league season in 2020. O’Malley’s professional career spanned 13 seasons, including parts of 3 Major League seasons with Los Angeles-AL (2014) and Seattle (2015-16).
Sean McGrath is entering his third season in the Mariners organization, his first as pitching coach for Double-A Arkansas. He spent the 2021 season as pitching coach with High-A Everett, and was named as pitching coach for High-A Modesto prior to the cancellation of the minor league season in 2020. McGrath spent 2 seasons as pitching coach at Elon University between 2018 & 2019.
Geoff Jimenez begins his first season a coach with Double-A Arkansas, his 2nd season in the Mariners organization. He was a coach with A Modesto during the 2021 season. He spent the 2020 season with the Phillies player development staff, and logged 5 years of collegiate coaching experience between 2015-2019, most recently as the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach at Maryville University in St. Louis Missouri.
Amanda Lee returns as athletic trainer with Double-A Arkansas in her 4th season in the Mariners organization. Chris Walter joins Arkansas as strength and conditioning coach for his first season in the Mariners organization. Walter served as Major League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Detroit Tigers from 2015-20.
