Giants claim right-handed pitcher Burch Smith off waivers from Milwaukee
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The San Francisco Giants announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Burch Smith off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. Smith will report to triple-A Sacramento.
The 29-year-old went 0-1 with a 7.82 ERA (11er, 12.2ip) in seven relief appearances for Milwaukee this season. He’s spent the majority of the season with triple-A San Antonio, going 6-3 with a 2.33 ERA (20er, 77.1ip) and a .181 opponents’ batting average against in 15 starts.
Drafted by the Padres in the 14th round of the 2011 MLB draft, the San Antonio native owns a 2-10 record with a 6.87 ERA in 55 career games (13 starts) with San Diego (2013), Kansas City (2018) and Milwaukee (2019) in three big league seasons.
To make room for Smith on the 40-man roster, the Giants have designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Dull for assignment.
