D-backs award Jansel Luis and Roman Angelo with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks named Visalia Rawhide INF Jansel Luis and High-A Hillsboro RHP Roman Angelo the organization’s Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for July.

JANSEL LUIS

  • Hit .326 (29-for-89)/.889 OPS with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 8 RBI, 11 walks, 1 hit-by-pitch, 3 stolen bases and 13 runs scored while reaching safely in 20 of 21 games with the Rawhide.
  • Ranked among California League hitters in hits (T-5th, 29).
  • Reached safely in all 14 road games (23 H, HBP), while batting .365 (23-for-63)/.937 OPS with 6 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI, 6 walks, 1 hit-by-pitch, 3 stolen bases and 7 runs scored.
  • Recorded multiple hits in each of his first 5 road games of July, hitting .609 (14-for-23)/1.436 OPS with 4 doubles, 1 RBI, 3 walks and 1 stolen base.
  • Recorded a career-high 4 hits on July 9 @ San Jose and a career-high 3 RBI on July 23 @ Lake Elsinore.
  • Recorded 8 multi-hit games.
  • Owned a 9-game hitting streak from July 14-28, batting .300 (12-for-40)/.914 OPS with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 4 walks, 1 stolen base and 5 runs scored.
  • Hit .388 (26-for-67)/1.028 OPS vs. righties.
  • Signed as a D-backs’ non-drafted free agent in 2022.

ROMAN ANGELO

  • Went 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA (11 R-10 ER in 26.0 IP), 1.04 WHIP, .202 opponent AVG (20-for-99), 7 walks and 32 strikeouts in 4 starts (all quality) with the Hops.
  • Ranked among High-A pitchers in innings pitched (T-6th, 26.0) and strikeouts (T-7th, 32).
  • Struck out a career-high-tying 10 batters on July 2 vs. Eugene.
  • Held right-handed batters to a .188 AVG (12-for-64), while left-handed batters hit .229 (8-for-35).
  • Posted a 47% miss rate off his changeup and 42% miss rate off his slider.
  • Signed as a D-backs’ Minor League free agent in 2023.
