Cubs name Jared Banner Vice President, Special Projects

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced the hiring of Jared Banner as Vice President, Special Projects in the baseball operations department.  

Banner, 35, brings with 13 years of experience in baseball operations and most recently was the New York Mets Executive Director, Player Development, overseeing the franchise’s minor league system starting in December of 2018. That followed 11 years with the Red Sox, including Vice President, Player Personnel in 2017-18, where he oversaw scouting professional players, notably in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Mexico.

Banner’s professional career began in Boston as a fellow in Boston’s baseball operations department in 2007. He was promoted to Assistant, Player Development in 2008 and named Assistant, Amateur Scouting in 2009. In 2010, Banner was elevated to Coordinator, Amateur Scouting before being named Assistant Director, Player Personnel in 2013.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Banner played four years of varsity baseball as an outfielder for Amherst College, and was the team’s captain in 2007.
