Colorado Rockies transactions
SCOTTSDALE – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have acquired infielder/outfielder Greg Jones via trade with the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for left-handed pitcher Joe Rock.
Jones, 26, was selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington … in four Minor League seasons with Tampa Bay, has slashed .266/.349/.438 with 114 stolen bases in 270 games … has appeared in 191 games at shortstop and 42 games in the outfield in his professional career … originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign.
Rock, 23, was selected by the Rockies in the second round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft … he received an invitation to Major League Spring Training for the first time this season and made one Cactus League start for the Rockies … in three Minor League seasons, is 9-18 with a 4.62 ERA (216.1 IP, 111 ER) with 243 strikeouts through 46 games (44 starts).
To make room for Jones on the 40-man roster, outfielder Sam Hilliard has been designated for assignment.
Colorado has a full 40-man roster.
